Sat 26th 2018 – EFL Play Off Final – Aston Villa 0:1 Fulham (Att 85,243)

We need to be more clinical in the final he said. We weren’t, we lost. Only real entertainment was from the four hours in The Green Man before the game.

Tue 15th 2018 – EFL Play Off SF 2nd leg – Aston Villa 0:0 Middlesbrough (Att 40,505)

When a team plays you that needs to score and they don’t have a shot on target you shouldn’t be unduly worried. And to be fair, I never really was. We could still be playing now and I think the defence would stop them having any meaningful effort on goal. Having said that, we had opportunities to score and kill the game off which weren’t taken – need to be more clinical in the final.

Sat 12th 2018 – EFL Play Off SF 1st leg – Middlesbrough 0:1 Aston Villa (Att 29,233)

Before the game I’d said that I wouldn’t start with Jedinak in midfield – so what do I know about tactics? Bruce called it correct, deciding to go with the power & height of Jedinak leaving the speed to far more able players. From a ball from Grealish, Jedinak headed home the winner in the first half and Villa were unlucky not to be two up at half time as a Snodgrass shot was parried on to the post. The match stats may give Middlesbrough the advantage on possession over the ninety minutes but you actually win games by scoring goals. On to the second leg…

Match in Five WordsIt’s still only half time

Sun 6th 2018 – EFL – Millwall 1:0 Aston Villa (Att 17,195)

Bit of a dead rubber really as the game was of little consequence. Villa rested several players – did their replacements do themselves any favours in the quest for a place in the play off team? Two penalties conceded, one scored the other saved by Bunn (twice). For the first time in living memory Grabban didn’t score – but there’s always the play off against Middlesbrough Derby County Middlesbrough.
